It is rumored that my great-great grandmother was at least part American Indian who was born in 1831 at Erie County in New York State. Her name was Sylvia Brailey. I do not know her parents' name or if she really was of Indian heritage; but, I'd appreciate any information which you can provide me. Thank you so very much. James Powell

My friend michael wants to trace his history to prove that he is native american. He needs to know where to start. How to get regestered as a Native American. He believes he can be lakota Souix. he is also a disabled veteran. Where do we start and what are the steps? Jack

Good site. I need to obtain legal counsel to write me a letter to the Southern Ute Tribal Court/Judges. It regards hunting/fishing rights, the US second amendment, and sovereignty. I had a deferred sentence....yet the Tribal Hearing process left me out of the process....May the Great Spirit be with you all...

I'm trying to track down my Native roots. My maternal great-grandmother Young was Anne Williams, who was Cree; and my paternal great-grandmother MacKenzie -- I can't find anyone alive to remember her name, she was Miq'maw. Any ideas on how I could proceed any further -- all my elders are dead. Thanks for this site and forum. Dwayne

I am looking for an old friend from the Tuscarora Tribe, Niagara Falls, NY, from a big family (9 brothers & 4 sisters, I think). I spent 3 years with him in Santa Cruz, California,1978-1981, and he had a sister living in Scottsdale, Arizona. He went by the name of "Shorty". I have to go through some old mail to try to find his full name. He was well known, was rowdy, and a good friend at the time. I would like to see what he's up to. I think he would be in his early 50's, but I don't remember. He had a well-known family within the Tribe. Any information would be appreciated.

Your website is very nice and I love it. I have been searching for my real father who's a trucker driving a cab-over 16 wheeler. My mom told him to leave. She's white, my father's Cherokee. He left before I was born. What worse was the hospital clerk didn't care. She's jealously. My mother tried to tell her my real father's names, but those names that was her friend's accidentally spilled out of her mouth, she was in daze and not alert since she was on medications to control pains after birth. The clerk should wait until my mom gain alertness, but she didn't care, she told her to hurry up. That signature looked like she was in daze. The clerk decided to put down "Negro" everyone knows I don't look like black people. Even my friends who are blacks told me I didn't look like anything like them. I asked my mother about my birth certificate. She explained what happened. My heart sunked. Now I'm 34 years old. I have two children who still want to meet their grandfather. Now they're 9 and 11. It's unfair for me and my children. Never know my own heritage, but some words came out of my mouth which I don't understand the tongue. My mom said I used to babbled in Cherokee and not English until I was 12 months old. I still feel sad. It's like one kick me out. But I know my father loves me and he probably still looking for me despite he's around 64 years old. His name was Bernie Herd or Heard or Hurd. Whatever his names is. It sounds the same which is hard. He's 5'11 1/2 tall. He was traveling from state to state going to California and back. But I did had a dream of my father. He was in the field. His hair pulled back, we look the same except he's a male. He said something like Lousiana. A State maybe? I may never know. Mom said he's from East. She should ask him for SSN, phone nbr, photo, etc..but she never did. Wado, Cynthia

Interested in know the citizenship of my son clayton King born Nov 9,1978 in Canada to a U.S. ctizen(his biological mother) and whose father is Native Canadian. Clayton has his status here in Canada The problem is he has joined the US Army (2mos ago) and they now want him to begin the process of filing for Naturalization or get a passport. I am wondering if he qualifies for dual citizenship under these treaties or has laws become stricter at the border because of terrorist problems? And he is Ojibway First Nation does that make any difference? Your answers or direction will be of great help to me and him. Megwetch.

We have a fine congressman in Tennessee by the name of Zach Wamp, who is part Cherokee, and has done a lot in having Moccasin Ben declared a national park, with the added benefit of protecting Native burial and archeological sites from two legged predators. great site. keep up the good work. I am derching on how to add my name to the tribal role of the Cherokee nation. I would apriciate any information on how to do this. My great grandmother and grandmother were full blooded Cherokee, with the name of Rush. There are several of the grandchildren trying to research our hertitage, but uninfotunately many of the family have passd that had this information. I know they came from eastern Tennesse and North Carolina. There are in total 16 granchildren and 32 great grandchildren that need to be added. My father who has passed never talked much of his heritage due to the fact he was looked down upon as a child for have "red" blood, but we as the children look upon this as something of great honor, so please if anyone has any information please forward it to my email. thank you- Merideth

Hello. My name is Angela Loomis and I am writing my thesis on Native American Women Veterans. I have created a website to help clarify my thesis project and I would be honored if you would review this material at www.nawv.bravehost.com. I am a descendent of the Mississauga Ojibwe and I started this project after learning my grandmother served as a WAC in World War II. During her service she was classified as other and served in the white division in Italy. As I started searching through the archives and Women war memorials I realized that there was no definite information on Native American Women veterans. I am asking for your help and if you could let others know of my project. Meegwetch, Angela

I am searching for any organizations or advocacies that would help my 24 yr. old sister who is fighting the state of Utah and her ex-husband. Currently she is facing felony charges with the state. Her two children are half Navajo and half anglo. The ex has returned to Utah with his mother's persistent and receive full custody of the children. I personally believe through several hearings and children's court my sister is not getting a fair trail. Her appointed attorney is useless. DNA from Navajo Nation is out of their jurisdiction and with that no help and no legal advice. It's to the point where she's about to give up on her children and forget about the whole ordeal. I told her not to give up there is someone or an organization that might be able to help you. There is alot more to this story. Please anyone out there might know of anything or resource, please email me.

Dear Sirs, I am amazed that a professor at the university of Michigan would defame Native Americans. Her name is Lynn Conway. Her web page (and the material I refer to here) is at : http://ai.eecs.umich.edu/people/conway/TS/Anjelica/Bailey-UCLA-Lecture.html#anchor260409 Please note it is sponsored by the University of Michigan! Below is one paragraph dealing with sex toys and comparing them to the religious relics and regalia of Native Americans: "Thus Anjelica brought a female mask, fake breasts, a wig and a rubber vagina to the interview. She showed these items on camera, and explained how the items in her experience went beyond sex, and had the power to confer identity, i.e., that they were "transformative" to a pretransition person - much as masks, feathers and powerful animal-spirit fetish items related to eagles and bears were to Native Americans (whose use of identity transformative fetish items Anjelica had deeply studied)." I find this deeply offensive as I am sure do you! To compare those who patronize sex shops for their toys to Native American religions is deeply disturbing. I have written to the University of Michigan to protest this flagrant disregard for the religious symbols of your peoples. The image of your shaman with fake breasts, a woman's mask, and a false vagina is evil and disgusting. Yours Sympathetically, Willow Arune

I am a 16 year old female who has been denied my heritage by the Family Court of New York at 4 months old. I real Father Stanley Robinson of Carmel, New York went to apply for Paternity but because my Mother Elizabeth Isaacson was married to Henry Isaacson at the time "Presumption of Marraige" was used and the courts judicated Henry Isaacson my father. Now to boot they took me away from my Mother and placed me with Henry Isaacson whom abused me for 7 years and then after I told my Mother of the abuse she was able to get me back and even though I have stated repeatedly that I want to know my real Father and heritage and wish Paternity tests done I was ignored and now I am placed in St. Anne Institute up in Albany on a bogus P.I.N.S. and am again being neglected and abused by the State of New York. Can someone help me I want my real Father to know the truth and I wish to be apart of my Heritage.

I witnessed a woman from Canada being "bullied" by a border guard at the port in Shelby Montana. This closed minded creton, of obvious limited intellegence denigned her right to pass into the US. He stated that a person of the Metis was nothing more than a "French Canadian" and had no rights whatsoever. Obviously I am embarrassed and disgusted that these small minded individuals patrol the border of my country. Please tell me what I can do about it, so others will not suffer a similar fate.

hi my names carol my grandmother was a little old iroquis indian who drank whiskey chewed tobacco and carried a big switch to keep her 11 children in line. her last name was kimmel she died of overian cancer before i was born. I have an uncle named hiawatha wiltfawn whom i have never met. my mother would never speak about my heritage. i suppose since i was born in the late fifties, there was alot of predjudice and unless you look close or are indian yourself you would never know I was half native american. now that i'm in my forties I realize she wanted to protect us. Because I have heard horrible filthy names about indians. It brakes my heart. I don't talk to other people about the way I feel, i guess it's because my mother not meaning to has made me feel ashamed. I here alot of people say that they are part indian and are proud of it, I don't know if they really are and I don't much care, but the truth is I would like to hold my head up high and be proud of who I am I just don't know where to start. I don't mean to sound like a cry baby i am just very confused. any suggestions?

According to my father my Grandmother whom I never knew was a TUSCARORAN. We have been trying desperately to find this line in our family but don't know where to start. Her name was OCIE MOUNTAIN and she lived in Huntingdon County PA. We found her in the 1910 census but cannot find her parents in the Census. We believe Annie and George Mountain were her parents name. She married Horace CORBIN also of PA My father is quite old and ill and I am afraid our ancestry will be buried with him. If you can offer any avenue to help us it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You,

I've been aware of the Jay Treaty, and Canandaigua treaty for some time. I know about the freedom of passage across borders, ie. Canada - US, visa versa, but I'm wondering why we have to pay tolls in NYS or other states. Why does it not include traveling inside the US as well. I was told by a NYS toll booth worker that the thruway that I was on was privately owned. Should not a federal law prevail over NYS laws? I'm an enrolled member of the Onondaga Nation. Nyaweha.

As a temporarily displaced Hodenosaunee, I find it both a great comfort and relief that there are still like-minded peoples whom realize that without perpetual awareness of our rights within the physical borders of Canada and USA, that the governments of said countries will attempt to "enfranchise" both our current generations, and those yet to come. One of my great grandfathers was born back in 1734 in Maryland, and lived to be 116. I think he must have had the same ideas that we do today concerning the way the Indians are treated. The creator smiled down on him for being correct in his thinking. I do not know which tribe he was for sure, but I do know that the Indians are a people who should be a nation of their own. The federal government only makes our lives miserable. Would you happen to know what Tribes were in Maryland and Virginia in the 1700's? Mary

This is my first time being at this site. IT IS GREAT. Not only is one able to state their mind, but also they are able to look for answers. Keep up the good work. I would like to ask a question of anyone who would care to answer. Has anyone ever had a child taken by a department of human services "for following doctors orders" ? My son and daughter -in-law are going through this at this time. The DHS are trying to say they were neglecting the baby. Does this make any earthly sense to ANYONE? We feel that everything would be different if my son were not native american, or if his name were on the elite list of the society page. Somebody answer please. We are almost to run out of fight. Are all Indians everywhere treated like this. I am native american as are all my children. My ex-husband if full blood, and we have encountered discriminatory treatment all our lives. Although I have been unable to prove my blood, due to the fact that I never knew my father nor his family, one only has to look at me to recognize me as an Indian. My mother was also Indian. She was also treated differently as she was growing up. Also, is there anyone out there who might possibly know of a JIM MILLER, who lived in Baxter Springs Kansas, in 1946. If any of his children are reading this, I love you even though I do not know you. My mother told me before she died that he is my father. I have felt an emptyness all my life that I could never figure out. I just knew that I did not look like my brother and sister. Mom told me that my father was a full blood, probably Cherokee, she wasn't sure. She died at age 74 and had forgotten a lot from her illness. If anyone knows please e-mail me with answers to these questions. It is so sad that the Native American People must still endure things that were promised would go away, long ago. I am still looking for family members of my mother. She is of Iroquois and Irish. We have been surching for years. I was hoping to find some kind of family member before she passed away. I am sad to say that My mother has passed on recently. But she still believed she was going to the great spirit in the sky. I also believe this. The day after she died. As I was out brushing off the snow on my van to get a paper and very saddened. A Crow flew over and kept yelling at me. I ignored it as long as I could. Then I looked up to it and said. Well mom if that is you I am alright. And I be okay Go fly in peace. And the crow flew away. I cryed then as the tears now are in my eyes and I can hardly see the key board.I still hope to find the family we have been so long searching for.God be with you all.

I agree with the statements and philosophy presented, I has given me inspiration to claim my rights afforded me by these two nations. I know there will be a fight for my rights but If I don't at least try what would I do? I want to challenge my right to live and work and go to school in America, I am sacrificing a lot such as scholarship opportunities because I am considered a CANADIAN.

I have something i need to say here . seems so many people are looking for their heritage but i beleive for the wrong reason so many of us are just wanting to find who we are and to just look for moneys or financial gane . just to know who you are means a lot to so many of us and we have trouble find any information on any family is almost impossable. So before you think how much money can i get for being Native American think of the Native American who just need to find their families. when your Stolen from your family and you have no way to trace them but you feel the need in your soul and in your heart and then others look for money from there ancestors. They died not being free to be who they realy where they hid because of there blood . And you want to cash in on that. iam sorry but i cant not see any one doing that its like taking Blood money for your education. RainDance

Yes, I have been told that I have a considerable amount of Indian blood running through my veins. I would like to know what tribe. It is said that it was on both of my grandmothers side. Their maiden names were, Beatrice Harris, and Nellie Rader of Ohio. Both were born around 1900 and 1913. If their is any help you could give me on this matter,I would greatly appreciate it,very much.I just know that I have native american blood in my veins. And for that I am very proud. I just desperatly need to know what tribe. Back in the early part of this century, my grand mother's did not wish for people to know that they had Indian blood. And in turn they did not let us know. please, if you can, help me with this. Really needin to know Fred s. Rolf

I didn't put my country or city because i do not recognize them as such, the country is canada, but i do not recognize them as a country and even though i was born on this land i do not consider myself canadian, it would be a disgrace to be called canadian. I am of austrian/russian/scottish ancestry, but i have never felt connected to my people, i have however for as long as i can remember felt a deep connection and understanding of all native peoples. For their troubles are my troubles, as they are everyone's troubles. Your people have been oppressed by my white ancestors for hundreds of years, and your fighting it, which i am very pleased with. As i myself am fighting it, and will continue to until the day i die. However my people have been oppressed by each other for thousands of years, and have lost all true knowedge of life, which is why we are on this self destructive path we are on. I don't think this is by accident however, or just the result of ignorance. I think, i believe that it has been systematically planned this way for thousands of years, for the purposes of global control, which we will see happen in our lifetime, its called the New World Order, which you can see anywhere in the "media". I don't presume to think that you don't know this, but just incase people don't, i have to write this. Black Elk once said"he white man came and said he just wanted a road to the yellow metal that made the white man mad, but now we can see what it was the white man really wanted."Well everyday we are seeing more and more of what he really wanted, he wants the whole world locked up in a little prison. I just want to say to all the people who are on the front lines of this battle to keep up the excellent work, in the end we will triumph, i know it in my heart, i think Bob Marleys words sum it up best "no bullet will stop us know, we neither beg nor we won't bow, neither can be bought or sold. We all defend the right Jah, Jah children must unite, your life is worth much more than gold." I nkwo what life is worth, and its not what i learned in the white education system, or their T.V, radio or even my parents. I learned it from my natural mother, earth. So i urge all those that don't hear our mother calling for help in the midnight breeze, to take a break from your hectic city life and listen to her, your lives depend on it as well. For those warriors out there still struggling for independance of this rule, i'm struggling with you, peace and don't give up the fight. Love to all KRT (i wish i had a real name) Anyone wishing to give me a real name please e-mail me.

I'am 1/2 Cherokee and Shawnee My mother is 3/4 indian she is enrolled with the American Cherokee Confederacy my sisters and I will be getting our cards also. I have a question about living and trying to get money for school and health services. Are we able to move onto a Reservation if my sisters and I are only 1/2 Indian and the Reservation is not Cherokee ? Can we get health and schooling help in the Buffalo NY area? Anything on this will help - We were told that we don't have the right that a full-blooded Native American would have - We are very PROUD of our history and would like to get in with Native groups and communty.

I live in Europe but have always loved the Native Americans and have many Native friends from different tribes. I admire their pride and the way they preserved their fantastic surroundings utilizing everything and ruining nothing. They are the rightful owners of America. Uninvited came shiploads of murderers, theives, religious fanatics and other unwanted riff raff and drove my friends like sheep (what was left of them) into tiny pens denying them their rights. Today this would be called terrorism. I am so angry as I have received an e-mail from an American following the dreadful event in NY where she accuses us over here as being gutless and Americans (according to her) are the only ones who do anything. They represent the land of the free, so there. I received a whole page of what I can only describe as bull shit. My son is a commissioned officer and has risked his life around the world to help the supressed. He is mad and sending the e-mail out all over. For someone to sit and pompously boast about the land of the free whilst on stolen property with the rightful owners denied their freedom is disgusting. I would like all Native Americans to know that we are not all of the same ilk. Some of us believe in justice. Love to everyone - a friend

She:kon, I have been posting all the emails that Ive been sending to Ebay and Yahoo since february, pleading with them to ban the use of the word squ*w to refer to the Native American Indian peoples. Ebay finally responded today, with another excuse and told me basically that the word squ*w isnt such a terrible word. The emails are on the site at: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/mohawk You can see on this site the emails that Ive sent to them, detailing why the word is derogatory, the history of the word, why it should be banned just like any other derogatory and racist words currently are banned... If you can provide any support, advice, or just pass this on to as many people that may also provide support, it would be very much appreciated. If you read the email posted on the site, you will understand why this is so important to all Native American Indian Peoples. Nia:wen, Monica Lamb

(Help) I'm trying to heal a family! My family members were taught to be ashame of the native american ancestry. Today the shame has shifted to denial and ignorance. It is my experience that there is a reason for all behaviors (good and bad). I have some theories to the cause of this intra-familial phenonmena. However I would love to research and reconnect that link to our native american culture. So if anyone have info or tips for me to research my native american-black hertiage of North Carolina. My family is from Scotland Neck, NC, my great-grand father is Frank Marsahll and 1st wife Anika (Staton)(Wastson), both known to be native americans, 2nd wife (Nell Maybury). His eldest son was Marshall Watson and 1st wife Laura (Drew) Watson. Thanks for your help.

Hello. I am a white person with a wide range of interests. I was a contributor to Akwesasne Notes "way back when" it first started off as a collection of newspaper clippings that people would send in. That was a LONG time ago -- early 1970s, I guess. Now I work as a clerk in the newsroom of the Montreal Gazette, so you have anything of interest to the media, feel free to send it to me. And if you can pass on my e-mail to Abel Kitchen - he was in Mistassini the last time I heard - and to Buckley Petawabano, I'd appreciate it. And to Kahn-Tineta Horn, too. I met all of these native people many years ago in Abel's apartment on Lincoln Street when the very first discussion of a Native Friendship Centre in Montreal was held. I am also a friend of someone name Jens A. Lyberth, although he has dropped the name of Lyberth, and goes by Anganaaq (I have that name on a card file at home, but I'm not at home right now, so I am not sure my spelling of it is correct). Jens is an Inuit from Greenland (Nuuk), who is a facilitator with the Baha'i community in Canada. Sorry for the length of this note. Nia:wen.

As I understand, she was; ( or maybe still is ) a Greene. Although Im not sure , as we parted ways sometime in the early 60s. Im in my 40s now with several children of my own whom are proud as I of their Native ancestry. Fortunately, they have no worries of the Child Welfare Act; for they will be with me untill its time to soar from this nest. Maybe then Ill show them the land I roamed, where maybe my history evolves from---I can be whole again. Oneh

Hi, My grandfather's family has always been our family's mystery. What I've heard, was that he was of Indian (Cherokee/Iroquios/Mohawk-?) background as well as maybe Irish, Scottish, French, Spanish & Negro. We do not know his relatives at all. They were never spoken about or visited. (I do understand that he had 13 brothers and sisters; what the breakdown of siblings was, I don't know). So, in my searching here's what I have learned (taken it with a "grain of salt" too.). I'm looking for William Mabius/Mabi(e)ns Parrish/Parishione (William Mabius Parrish is what he went by); born January 27, 1894 in Rougemont, NC. Lived in Baltimore, MD for a period of time and was married to "Carrie" who was from NJ; they lived in MD, and he worked for the B & O RR. They lived on Poppleton Street in Maryland -I've got them on the census. His parent's names were either Edward and Laura (Lara) or David and Laura (Lara) or Edward David/David Edward. He had a one brother named Eugene and at least 2 other bothers and one sister. William was in WW I; Ind 10/27/17 Pvt.; Pvt. 1class 12/14/17; corp 1/24/18, Btry A 351 FA, Hon disch 3/5/19, Overseas 6/19/18 to 2/16/19, Marbache Sector. We believe he deserted "Carrie" to have a life with my grandmother Lucy Ann Butler of Bridgeton, NJ. We also believe that the "Mabins" stood for his mother's maiden name. There is a "road block" they're as well. While working for the B & O RR, my grandfather was witness to his best friend's murder. His friend was playing cards on the train while my grandpop worked as a porter. His friend was accused of cheating and was shot dead on the spot in front of my grandfather and other card players. I would love to find out the name of his friend. William M. Parrish also lived in Bridgeton, NJ just prior to marrying Lucy Ann Butler. They moved for a short time just outside of Philia, PA near the Philia. Butlers. Then moved to Dunellun/Piscataway, NJ where they resided the remainder of their lives. Some other jobs held by my grandfather were - mortician's helper, foundry worker, and a security guard at a Muhlenberg hospital in NJ. If this sounds like someone in your family or someone your family knew of, please contact me as I'm slowly finding out bit & pieces of my grandfathers' mysterious past and have hit a "brick wall". Any input at all would be greatly appreciated.

I am still trying to find my mother's family. She is of the Iroquois tribe. I only know what my mother was told. Which isn't much to go on. Her father's father a Canadian man married an Indian woman. Somewhere close to or around New York. His last name was Ballettee. My mother's parents were killed when my mother was 3 months old. The only thing that we can really gather is a scroll that she has. I don't know if you would call it a map or not. It has mountains, and rivers on it. and some signs of teepees. It is either made of sheep skin or some kind of hide. My mother named me Princess Laughung Owl. And her name was June Bug. She thinks but is not sure that Rippleing Waters was some kin to her from what she was told. I see you have no email address here. I moved back to NY from Florida in September. I was involved in Florida AIM support group while there and since being home I find there is really not a whole lot in the way of support for Indian rights and issues here in NY. I am looking for a way to get involved in what effects us here at home. Please drop me a line and let me know how to get involved and where I can best be of some help. I am currently working with a group to ensure Indian prisoners in the US have access to ceremonial items and the opportunity to practice their beliefs while in the Iron Lodge and we are working on NY state prisons to get them to comply as well. I feel there are many more issues I can be of use on so please let me know.

As a Tecumpseh was once heard to say, "I claim the right to live on my lands and afford you the privalege to return to yours". As a Chickamauga Cherokee, (who counts as well, three Ongwe onwe ancesters) I support the IDLA. Ive been a part of the unity movement since 1968, (when I first entered NYC) The many friends among the Dibo and Delill familys welcomed me then, I have not forgotten their welcome. If our collective people are going to be more than figures on a silver screen or characters in text, or fancy bead an bedecked Indians struting around Washington seeking favor and approval fropm foreign politicians, then we must remember who we are and from whence weve decended. My grandfathers and Grandmothers fought long an hard to simply hold onto their self respect, and dignity. The love of our traditions and culture they passed to me along with a heart for the fight. As youve so apptly pointed out "Each generation must reaffirm these rights" Freedom is nothing if it is not won and gaurded. Only we can assure that. My mother is of the Sixth Nation of the Iroquois Tribe. We have be trying to find family of hers. Her Grandmother of the Iroquois Tribe had a son named Franzisco LaBella Ballettee by a Canadian Frenchman which is my grandfather. Some how he was in Texas working on the Q Bar X Ranch which he married an Irish woman from Ireland. These were the parents of my mother. They wee killed when my mother was three months old. She was raised in an orphanage in North Carolina. The only thing she has of her Fathers is some kind of map made from sheep skin. I don't understand the map for I can not understand all of the markings. I do know that it looks like mountains and things. Can someone tell me what this map is for and how I can find family members of her tribe. FYI: I recently received information that a movie detailing the Native American "Cultural Defense" has been made into a VHS video. This film received very good reviews at the last American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco, Fall 2000. It is a professional film with interviews of everyone involved. For those of you that don't know of him, Hooty Croy is a Native from Yreka Ca, who was convicted of killing a police officer. From death row, Hooty Croy used this defense, successfully, to free himself from prison. He showed that there still exists a climate of racial hatred and institutional denial towards the American Indian holocaust. The producers plan to distribute the movie with a study guide booklet to accompany the video, for legal professionals. I believe they are actively seeking to have the film reviewed, to obtain usable quotes and testimonials. For more information or to obtain a pre-release copy of this new video, Please write to : videomeister@hotmail.com To see a streaming clip of this movie click here -> http://www.seattlesweb.com/freemovies/reasontofearthehootycroystory.ram More Information -> http://www.seattlesweb.com

If you talk to you mother and both are on the us side It is $20. I she goes to Cornwall to visit someone the same call is $75. Seems General Washington is still separating the people, by arbitrary lines on a map!

I have been looking for information on my mother's family on her father's side. He was Iroquois Indian. From what I am understanding from my mother her grandmother was ripplingwatters. She had a child by a canadian Frenchman. This baby was my mother's father. He was working on a ranch called the Q Bar X Ranch in Texas when he grew up. I don't know how he got there in the first place. I do know that the people that ran this Ranch their first names were Quinten and Xzabria. I have no last names for them or what part of Texas it was. I just know it was 10 miles from the Alamo. When these people needed help they sent for people from other countries. This is where my mother's mother came from. She was from County Cork Ireland. My mother's parents got killed in a car wreck and burned to death when my mother was 3 months old. The ranch people couldn't keep her. So they contacted her family from Ireland. They did not want her for they were afraid that she was not of white color. From what My mother understands the Indiand Tribe did not what her because she was a half breed. So she was shipped to an orphanage in Rockingham North Carolina. My Grandmother's name before she was married was June Meria O'Hara. My Grandfather's name was Franzisco LaBella Ballettee. I understand that the Man that got my mother's grandmother pregnant left and came back again after the baby was born and named him Because he didn't want an Indian name on him.I have been surching for any information on the Indian Trib. My mother's name before she got married was from her father he named her JuneBug her mother didn't like that name so she named her after her husband which was June Franzee Ballettee. My mother gave me an Indian name which is Princess Laughing Owl. But my father name me an American name of Gertrude. If any one out there has any information that could help me. Please let me know for my mother is ill and sh is 77 years old. PLease e-mail me at g922@CHARTERPA.NET

She has become aquainted with members of the Maliseet tribe. The Maliseets are trying to build more homes on their property to house their own people. They are having trouble with the local government there. They want to restrict the number of homes they can build. I dont understand how they can legally stop them from building on their own property? Peace, Free Wolf

I was searching for info. on Indian Billy for a friend. I just ran across this site. I haven't checked it out yet. My childrens grandfather on there dad's side last name is Creek. His is a Native American but I don't know of what nation. After I research all the genealogy stuff for my mom's side {which is taking forever} I will be back to this site. I hope all Natives get their rights and fair treatment. Remember, not all of use "whites" are bad. I cannot help what a long gone distant relative did. I am sorry they were that way. Keep up your search for happiness. Good luck with whatever you find. I hope that some of you aren't letting reverse predjudice control you. We are all just people. Does anyone know anything of Indian Billy I can share with my friend? She is a decendent of his. Diana

Hi there!! I just wanted to say that this is an awesome site, and that I always believed in and stuck up for Native rights for all of Turtle Island. I belong with the Michigan Chapter of AIM (American Indian Movement) and on behalf of AIM I want to thank IDLA for keeping up with the struggle for all Native rights just like the way AIM is!! :)) We are all in this together, through thick and thin, against any foreign, oppressive invasions that may come our way. Keep up the great work with the struggle and with this site! :))

I was looking up the last name of my peruvian-australian fiance when I came across shamanism by accident. His mothers maiden name is Cohaila. I have always been interested in Native American cultures and, although I know of no other Native Americans other then his family, I believe them to be beautiful and knowledgable people. My fiance is in Peru at the moment, so, missing him I have been trying to find out as much about the Peruvian culture as possible. I would appreciate any information you could e-mail me, if you have the time. Thankyou

Doors are shut by prejudice. This site is a window into your Native world, a world in which I will never belong. Spiritually free, my heart is open. My mind keen. We could write.. cross the rainbow bridge and journey with our souls.

My brother which is the next entry under this one has just informed me that we are likely to be direct decendants of Chief Clinton Rickard. That explaines a few things about myself and my beliefs as well as my thoughts on a day-to-day basis. "The strong will stay true to the one"
