I am Grand Sachem Chief Moigu Standing Bear, Aquai,(Greetings) to all who visit this site and peace be with you. I hope the Great Spirit, MUNDU, as we call him in Mohegan has guided you here to learn and understand about some of the ways of our people. I am the Sachem of my people as was my father before me and a direct descendant of the great Grand Sachem Uncas. Our Tribe is Mohegan which means people of the Wolf or Wolf people. I live in the City of Kings located on the Yantic River where there are two waterfalls and a place called Uncas Leap where the Great Uncas jumped across the revine, a feat to this day that has not been repeated and I might add that if anyone dared to try they would surely fall to their death on the jagged rocks far below that sacred place. My father Grand Sachem Chief Rolling Cloud AKA John E. Hamilton was the leader of the Mohegan-Pequot people from 1933-1988. He was also a Native American Rights Activist and founded the National American Indian Defense Association in 1939 and was also land claims representative for many Tribes across the Nations. He was a Great Man and I am Honored to be his son. My father's vision was to see all the Tribes come together and stand strong in unity, unfortunately he was only able to see this on a small scale in his lifetime, but this is also my vision and the the vision of many other Native American people across the nations. If you wish to learn more about the Confederation of Tribes and feel the time has come for the Tribes to recognize each other's inherent sovereign rights as Independent Nations, rights that every Native American Indian is born with and cannot be given by the U.S. government because these rights pre-exist colonial contact and if you feel in your heart that the only people who can recognize Native American Indians are the Native American Indians then contact one of the following addresses instead of leaving it up to the BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) who by the way misplaced 2.5 Billion Dollars of our money! There is too long a trail of broken treaties and empty promises by the U.S. government and the time has come to take back our culture and traditions in honor of our ancestors and our children. Take the U.S. Government's hand out of our pockets and Uncle Sam's foot off our throats. Stand with us in unity. The Genocide of our people has never stopped. They're just better at hiding it now! for more info. contact the Confederation of the Mohegan-Pequot American Indian Nation and Affiliated Tribes at this page's e-mail address or call 1-860-886-9338 Fax 1-860-886-1432 or mail National American Indian Defense Association, 232 Yantic St.Norwich CT.06360 May the Great Spirit Guide you on your path Grand Sachem Chief Moigu Standing Bear

Dear Sir, Good to see that someone is doing something positive about the Native Americans in the USA. The problems of my brothers and sisters in the USA are known to me through the net and to be quite honest it is sickening. However knowing you are the very roots of the Americas it is a shame that many see you as potential threats and discard you as a thing of the past... what planet are these people on? To know that I have Native blood, Kahien'kahake to be procise, it is wasted sitting here in GB when I can be learning more about the ways of my ancestors. It is a great thing that the likes of the IDLA are going like the wind to clear a future for all the tribes of the North Americas (if you like). I wish to learn more so put in more output in this site it would be great to hear from you. Peace be with you all my brothers and sisters. Peter J. Bourne

I've been trying to do a search on my ancestry and have been doing a search on the name "General". This seems to be such a small family with the majority of its members being in ON. I'm from Nova Scotia and am a Status Indian. It was very nice to see someone (Levi General) with the same last name and very possibly a relative who was so pivotal in a historical event.

Geez' I didn't know that IDLA was still around.I,ve been out of contact for along time.I knew Clinton Rickard. He came to North Carolina in the 60's to meet with the Haliwa-Saponi people near the old Tuscarora Reserve.I have an old letter from him on IDLA Stationary stating that the Haliwa-Saponi people are the true remnant descendants of the Tuscarora who left Carolina in the late 1700's. Good to know you are still active

It was nice meeting the IDLA this past border crossing day. I provide pro bono (free) advocacy services for our people in every aspect of life; Civil Rights, Tribal Sovereignty, and the unique rights of our people. After leaving the position of Vice Chair of the Board at the Baltimore American Indian Center in late October 1997, I took a position as the Community Relations Legal Advisor for the American Indian Society of Washington DC. Working together we can provide greater support of the Jay Treaty rights. If anyone needs a legal advocate to mediate a resolution with the government or an institution whose policies are contrary to our ways please contact the American Indian Society (in the Washington DC area), the IDLA in the New York area, or contact me directly via the internet and hopefully your conflict can be resolved in your favor. May the Creator bless you all with good health. Onen ki'wahi!

I am an attorney who is initiating a legal action against the U.S. Department of the Inteior for its past and continued violation of Federal environmental standards that are causing serious ecological and contamination activities on Native American trust lands nationwide. However, the standing requirements under the Citizen Suit provisions require the plaintiffs to have some real connection to the harm, therefore, I am in need of individual Native Americans and Native American organizations to serve as strawmen plaintiffs in this action. These individuals and organizations may be able to become involved in the remedy selection and monitoring process once the liability is established and believe me there is no problem with proving these issues. I worked for five years at the U.S. Department of the Inteiro, Office of the Solicitor, Division of Indian Affiars, and I know the information is available. If interested in joining this action you can contact me at e-mail phillipt@crosslink.net or 301-265-9706. Thank You Phillip E. Thompson

Great Site. I'm trying to compile info right now on tribal sovereignty with regard to Maine Indians (Penobscot and Passamaquoddy). Problem is - how does a Tribe exercise sovereignty when the State has been suppressing it for so many years? The Maine Indian Land Claims Settlement probably seemed like a good idea at the time, but the consequences have been devastating, in terms of sovereignty.

The rights of the "Jay Treaty" must never be abrogated nor forgotten. The misapplication of the Jay Treaty by the federal governments of Canada and the U.S.A. is merely another attempt of White European Males to treat as "childlike" the Originial People and continue to "take" the lifeblood of the OP and spill it upon the soil of the OP's ancestors. This is never acceptable. A great page. Walk in Beauty

I think this website is simply awesome and I hope you continue to convince white people all over Turtle Island that no matter how many whites there are living here, this will ALWAYS be Native owned. Remember don't let any racists get to you because the truth is that if it weren't for the First Nations being here, the whites would have froze to death, starved to death and ultimately destroyed themselves! And you would not have been to blame at all! It would have been the complete fault of the arrogant whites. The whites have a lot to thank for where the First Nations are concerned. But anyway, keep up the great work!

I am a Chamorro, a native of the island of Guam. As an indigenous person living on an island that has been subjugated for over 400 years, I can empathize with you. My people are continuing their fight to be recognized by the U. S. government as a distinct people known as Chamorro. In 1998, Guam will "celebrate" 100 years of colonialism under the U. S. Can a subjugated native be happy and consider himself truly free? The answer can only be an empathic "No!" Good luck to all of us! May we succeed.

Great site with a great message. The world needs to be reminded that without honor, there is no trust. Promises made whether by the "gentleman's agreement" handshake (is there still such a thing?) or by signature on paper mean nothing if the intent is not upheld. Why must greed always superceed honor? It is very important that these pages exist because, as we all know. The injustice done by the US government, and any ally countries, are not taught by "white" history. These truths need to be told to allow the Native Americans to keep there own cultural identity and insure that these horrors do not happen in the future. It also creates a great understanding of a culture that many Americans do not know much about and only learn about through lies.

I am an undergrad here in Santa Cruz. I am doing a research paper on the Iroquois confederacy, it's history and how it has survived up through today ( I had hope to include lots of information about the role the US and Canadian government have played in undermining (or attempting to undermine) the confederacy....I've not had much luck getting information on contemporary League issues...your page is great...can you direct me to other sources of information that would shed additional light on this subject? Thanks Kimbra

Fighting is painful, but nothing good can be born without pain. In a struggle, not the first but the last hit brings victory. Whites started which means nothing. Important is who is going to finish. That is what leads to success. Good luck!

sometimes I beleave that a fight (war) is needed, to fullfill the fact that I'm a north american native. and that we as native's have to bring this battle to the govenments to remind them who we are and what we are capabel of doing. remember that to war with One, dose not always mean to win, but to make a point that you can bite.

Wooten of Geronimo regarding the lack of Legislation and Policy of the U.S. Congress and the administration of President Clinton concerning the regulation of the National American Indian arts and crafts manufacturing/import- export trade industry which is, in fact, estimated to be about $400 to $800 million dollars annually. In short, you may contact Geronimo (CLW) by sending a message via Codetalk. Thank you in this matter. Yours truly, Geronimo (CLW) - 555 94 2180
